There are 12 Rashies (Sign) in vedic Astrology. Each rashies has its own properties and are represented by a symbols
                                        Unlike Bhavas (Houses) rashies are movable and forms the complete zodiac. Planets are the lords of various rashies accept Rahu and Ketu. Each planet owns atleast one rashi and impart their planetary qualities to their respective rashies. 
                                                        For Example Venus own Taurus and Libra, Taurus has properties of Venus like expertise in various arts, but Taurus is stubborn in nature, on other side Libra also has various expertise of Venus in it, Libra is more of disciplined in nature.
                                                           The various Rashies and Signs are named as follows:-
  1. Aries (Mesha)
  2. Taurus (Vrishabha)
  3. Gemini (Mithun)
  4. Cancer (Karka)
  5. Leo (Simha)
  6. Virgo (Kanya)

Bhavas or Houses

Before we discuss the topic further, let us be clear about two things. 1st there are two types of chart system in Indian Astrology.
                                           One called south Indian type chart, in which rashies are fixed and 2nd is North Indian type, in which Bhavas or Houses are fixed. As we are going to deal with north Indian chart type, so will discuss only north Indian Type charts.
                                          2nd thing is, there is a big difference between Bhavas OR houses and Rahies. Rashies can fall in any Bhavas OR house, depending upon which rashies fall in lagna at the time of birth.
                                          Each one of the bhava (Houses) represent many aspect of a person's life like tanu bhav, it represent native ownself, his body, his heart, longevity etc.
                                                There are 12 bhavas Or houses in a horoscope, which are show in the image and as follows:-

  1. Tanu Bhav OR 1st House
  2. Dhana Bhav OR 2nd House
  3. Sahaja Bhav OR 3rd House
  4. Matru Bhav OR 4th House
  5. Putra Bhav OR 5th House

                                                  In vedic astrology the SUN is considered as planet not a star, Uranus, Neptune and pluto are not consider and it includes two more shadowy planets and RAHU and KETU which make 9 planets in vedic astrology. RAHU and KETU are mathematically calculated as sensitive points of intersection of the orbits of the Moon and the Sun.

Nakshatras

Ancient Indian recognized 27 division of the zodiac called Nakshatra or Constellations. Moon takes about 27.3 days to complete its sojourn around the ecliptic. The Nakshatras represent the average daily motion of the Moon against the fixed stars.
                   In actual the time span of each Nakshatra Varies, but in ancient time the segment were fixed to a lenthg of 13 degree 20 minutes of arc.
Unlike the zodiac the Nakshatras are symbolized by inanimate object. The sanskrit term Nakshatra means "Which does not decay or destroy" . As there are 27 division of the Nakshatras, there names are as follows:-
